Mercury Star Alyssa Thomas Responds to MVP Chants Following Friday's Win

The Phoenix Mercury came back strong on Friday against the Golden State Valkyries, 81-72. This was a significant win for them as they suffered a tough 83-61 loss against the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, which was their lowest scoring total of the regular season.

Thomas played a significant role in Phoenix's win. She finished the game with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 16 assists. It was a historic game for the veteran All-Star since she registered another triple-double this year.

As a result, the Footprint Center was filled with MVP chants from the fans. They recognized the work that Thomas has put in, resulting in another impressive stat line.

The six-time All-Star is one of the favorites to win the MVP award this season. Her performance this season has made a lasting impression on the audience. Due to this, fans have noticed her performance and how it's deserving of the prestigious award.

Following the win over Golden State, Thomas commented on the chants she received from the fans.

“I feel like it’s the ultimate sign of respect from a fanbase. Not too many people can say they’ve had a crowd cheering for them like that,” Thomas said. “Truly, [I] appreciate it. I know I got them supporting me 100% and just super grateful for those moments.”

The season isn't over, and she can continue dominating the league with her all-around work with the basketball. The Mercury's next game will be against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

This season, Thomas is averaging 16.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.9 assists for the Mercury.
