The Phoenix Mercury came out on top on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Sparks. Led by Satou Sabally, the team had a three-point win with the final score of 89-86. Sabally was phenomenal for the Mercury for her second game.
The All-Star forward had 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. She was also locked in defensively with her three steals and one block. However, she didn't shoot well from the field, only 37.5%. Still, she made the most of her trips from the free throw line.
Her co-star, Alyssa Thomas, went to work to help Phoenix. Thomas had 19 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the win.
On X, the team's social media account threw shade at the Sparks. The team spoiled Los Angeles' attempt to have a dramatic ending.
"On planet mercury, there’s no Hollywood endings," the Mercury posted.

This was in refence to Thomas scoring eight of her 19 points in the fourth quarter. When the team needed the boost, the five-time All-Star stepped up.
Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts spoke highly of the veteran star after the game. The coach praised Thomas for her leadership and effort that gave them the victory. Tibbetts revealed that the three-time WNBA sent a message to her teammates at halftime that fired them up.
Her speech resulted into a seven-point quarter for the Sparks.
“AT cares about one thing and that’s winning,” Tibbetts said. “She wants to do it with toughness and grit and that’s something we all want and she’s gonna hold us to a certain standard.”
I asked Nate Tibbetts about what was said at halftime (The Sparks scored seven points in the third quarter).
