PHOENIX — Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally were recognized in the top five of ESPN’s newcomer impact rankings two weeks into the season.
Thomas at Third
Thomas came to Phoenix in a trade from the Connecticut Sun in February. In a team with new faces and rookies, Thomas has been a foundation to create opportunities on offense. She has matched a career-high in assists against the Chicago Sky on May 27.
The Phoenix forward is averaging 15.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Sabally in Fourth
Sabally comes to the desert in a trade from the Dallas Wings and has been one of Phoenix’s most consistent shooters. With star Kahleah Copper out of action, Sabally has taken charge as the Mercury’s lead scorer averaging 19.8 points per game.
Both Sabally and Thomas are the team’s only two players averaging more than 11 points per game.
Sabally is shooting 38.8% from the field and 27.3% from three so far this season.
