Mystics Deliver Strong Message With NFL Star QB Hours Before Season Opener

The Washington Mystics begin their 2025 WNBA schedule Friday night. The team found the perfect voice to narrate a social media video for the season opener.

To celebrate the start of the regular season, the Mystics released a hype video hours prior to the team's home opener. Washington Commanders star quarterback Jayden Daniels provided the narration for the video.

"Everybody thinks they know DC. They see the monuments, the marble, the power suits. But we know the real DC," Daniels said in the hype video. "This city is made for people from Southeast to Shaw, U Street to Anacostia. We're Backyard in the sunmer air. We're Barry Farms blacktops under the floodlights.

"We don't just live in DC. We make moves here, and that energy is in the air."

Aside from perhaps 20-year veteran and Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who broke the NHL goals record during the 2024-25 regular season, Daniels is easily the most popular current athlete in the nation's capital.

Daniels led the Commanders in the NFC championship game during his rookie season. Throwing for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, Daniels also won the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

With that in mind, it's hard to argue there was a better choice than Daniels to narrate the Mystics season opener hype video.

Everyone thinks they know DC, but it's deeper than that.

"There's a momentum building," Daniels continued in the video. "This Mystics team, they're built from that same grit, that same fire.

"Playing ball is in our DNA, and this season is more than a game. It's a movement. This team plays for you, for every hooper with big dreams, for every fan."

The Mystics will host the Atlanta Dream in their home opener Friday night. Tip off is at 7:30 pm ET.
