The salaries and earnings of female athletes have come into focus in recent days following comments by Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese on WNBA players potentially threatening to sit out games.

Recently, Minnesota Lynx forward and Unrivaled league founder Napheesa Collier joined The Dan Le Batard Show to discuss a large range of topics including how WNBA players maximize their earnings potential by playing in other leagues, oftentimes in other countries.

Collier shared a surprising take on WNBA players' salaries that underscores the potential role of Unrivaled and other brand name based business ventures for improving WNBA players' yearly salaries.

Collier's statement came following comments by Reese that WNBA players could potentially sit out games if they don't get what they "want" from commissioner Cathy Englebert's league.

Collier made a surprising revelation on how WNBA players earn the bulk of their yearly salaries.

"For a lot of WNBA players, they've been having to go overseas for years to supplement their income, because we make money for, you know, (only) six months out of the year," Collier said to Le Batard on the longtime south Florida journalist's DraftKings Network based show.

"So, with that, a lot of people don't realize that we make most of our money off the court," the Lynx forward continued.

"So, like 90% of the money I make is off the court, and so you have to be able to activate with brands, like brand building is a huge part of our business."

The Lynx forward was asked by Le Batard about her overseas basketball career, which has taken her to China, Turkey and France, and whether or not the practice feels "minor league" to her.

Collier said that playing overseas has come with a unique sets of experiences that have fostered entrepreneurial creativity.

"You know, I think being in different countries, they each pose their own problems," Collier said, adding that her and her husband Alex Bazzel's journeys helped them to come up with a framework for the new Unrivaled league.
