Natasha Cloud made WNBA regular-season history with double-double in win vs. Aces
Patrick Breen/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

Not only did the Phoenix Mercury get revenge on the Las Vegas Aces for a loss last week by winning 98-88 on Tuesday , but Natasha Cloud achieved a major milestone after a double-double.

With 11 points and 10 rebounds against the Aces, Cloud became only the 10th player in WNBA history to have 10 or more points/assists double-doubles. She was also just three rebounds away from a triple-double.

Since joining the team in the offseason, Cloud has revitalized the Mercury along with Kahleah Copper as the team looks vastly improved following a 9-31 season last year. Per game, Cloud is third in assists (7.3) and Copper is the leading scorer (31.3 points) in the WNBA.

Cloud’s prolific playmaking and defense have been substantial game-changers for Phoenix, two attributes to her game that she has swiftly brought over from the Washington Mystics to the Valley. On Washington, the Pennsylvania native was named twice (2019, 2022) to the WNBA All-Defensive Team.

What Mercury fans should notice more is her veteran leadership, high basketball IQ and strong communication skills. Whether Phoenix is in a huddle, if she is playing or on the bench, Cloud has been extremely vocal and has guided her team to where they should be on every play on both ends of the court.

Through three games, the St. Joseph’s product is averaging 10.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds. On the defensive side of the ball, she has 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

In the Mercury’s next matchup at home, Cloud will face her former team in the Mystics for the first time as an opponent. Cloud spent her entire WNBA career with Washington and played eight seasons (2015-19, 2021-23) before signing with Phoenix.

The Mercury and the Mystics clash inside Footprint Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT.
