July’s midseason roster cut-down looms large for WNBA teams, with July 13 marking the deadline to trim rosters to 12 players.

As the date approaches, Front Office Sports reporter Annie Costabile revealed on Tuesday that veteran forward DeWanna Bonner, recently waived by the Indiana Fever, could draw swift interest on a veteran minimum deal worth $78,831 for the remainder of the season.

Costabile noted that while many expected Bonner to rejoin the Phoenix Mercury, "discussions around signing the two‑time WNBA champion include multiple teams" eager to bolster their lineups ahead of the cutoff.

Bonner’s departure from Indiana followed a brief nine‑game stint in which she averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.

Originally signed on a one‑year, $200,000 unprotected contract, Bonner began the season as a starter but was relegated to the bench after three games.

After citing "personal reasons," she missed five straight matchups before the Fever moved to waive her, opening the door for other squads to claim her under the veteran minimum provision.

At 37 years old and in her 17th WNBA season, Bonner remains one of the league’s most accomplished players.

In her Fever debut on May 17, 2025, she surpassed Tina Thompson to move into third place on the WNBA’s all‑time scoring list with 7,489 career points.

Over her career, she has been selected to six WNBA All‑Star Games, averaging 14.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals across 511 regular‑season contests.

Beyond scoring, Bonner has been lauded for her versatility, defensive prowess and leadership, earning All‑Defensive, All‑WNBA and two WNBA titles during her time with the Mercury.

Given her extensive championship experience, she could very well land with a title contender like Phoenix or the New York Liberty, the latter of which boasts $119,394 in available cap space.

The Golden State Valkyries and Washington Mystics also  each hold sufficient cap space to claim her off waivers, and both could be in position to make a deep playoff run.
