New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu releases second signature shoe
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

At one point, New York Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu was the next big thing in women’s basketball. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft had a dominant collegiate career at Oregon before turning pro.

She was stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis, recording triple-doubles and knocking down shots from all over the court. Sabrina Ionescu is one of the most popular basketball players in the world and Nike is taking full advantage.

Earlier this week, her second signature shoe was unveiled by Nike. As shared by Nick DePaula of ESPN, the Sabrina 2 will have a full release on June 28th in adult and kid sizes. The New York Liberty star’s first colorway in the new shoe is called ‘Court Vision’ with a sleek combination of black, purple, white and gray.

The release of the Sabrina 2 has been much anticipated. The Sabrina 1s were a massive hit in the basketball world, as players in the WNBA and NBA wore the shoes during games. Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics was the first NBA player to wear them, and Sabrina Ionescu was in attendance to see it.

“I don’t even think I watched the game,” Ionescu said to ESPN. “I was really just watching his feet.”

Holiday liked the shoes enough that he wore them 57 times during the 2023-24 NBA season, per Kix Stats. In total, 114 players across the leagues wore the Sabrina 1s, as they were a huge hit for Nike.

The reach of the New York Liberty guard went beyond even basketball. On the gridiron in the NFL, New York Jets running back Breece Hall wore a pair of cleats inspired by the Sabrina 1s.

It has to be a great feeling to see so many people wearing your signature show. Expect Sabrina Ionescu’s second signature shoe to have even more fans after excellent reviews for the first.
