'No Timeline': Breanna Stewart to Miss Dallas Wings Game as New York Liberty Take Cautious Approach

Breanna Stewart will not play in Monday night’s matchup against the Dallas Wings, and the New York Liberty has not established a timetable for her return following a right leg injury sustained over the weekend.

“There’s no timeline,” Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello said during Monday’s pregame availability. “And I’m not even sure what part of the leg it is.”

Stewart was injured just under four minutes into Saturday’s 101–99 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. She appeared to sustain the injury while running in transition, quickly motioned to the bench for a substitution, and did not return. She left the court with three points and one rebound.

Breanna Stewart Faces No Major Damage

Sources tell DallasHoopsJournal.com that imaging performed after the injury did not reveal any major structural issues. Stewart has joined the team for its four-game road trip but will sit out Monday’s game in Dallas.

Brondello provided no additional medical details and noted that further evaluation and rest would guide the team’s approach. “Hopefully she’ll be OK,” she said after Saturday’s game.

Stewart has not missed a game this season prior to the injury. She is averaging 19.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.

Fatigue a Factor Before Injury

Following Friday’s win over the Phoenix Mercury—on the first night of the back-to-back—Stewart acknowledged the difficulty of managing her workload.

“I just need to get my legs back under me,” Stewart said. “I’m not sure how to manage with a back-to-back, but I’ll find a way.”

The Liberty will continue their road trip later this week with games against the Minnesota Lynx and Connecticut Sun. Stewart’s availability for those contests remains unclear.
