Two Notre Dame women’s basketball players are predicted to go in the first round of next year’s WNBA Draft in an ESPN mock draft. The mock has Fighting Irish point guard Olivia Miles going No. 4 overall to the Washington Mystics and shooting guard Sonia Citron going at No. 12 to the Phoenix Mercury.
Here's what ESPN said about Miles:
“Miles, who missed the 2023 postseason and all of 2023-24 because of a knee injury, is another possible early entry. One of the concerns with Miles, along with health, is her 3-point shooting. However, she's off to a good start this season. She had a triple-double in the Irish's opener, and her 20 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists Sunday against Lafayette helped Notre Dame move to 4-0. Another plus: Success among Notre Dame guards in the WNBA is well established.”
Miles averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.9 assists in the 2022-2023 season when she was the ACC Player of the Year runner-up. She is averaging 18.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.8 assists through the first four games of this season while also making 9 of 19 (47%) from 3-point range. She made 19 of 78 from long distance in 28 games in the 2022-23 season. Miles also does still have another season of college eligibility.
Here’s what ESPN said about Citron:
“We don't know yet if guard Diana Taurasi might return for a 21st WNBA season with the Mercury. Either way, Phoenix could look for more guard help if there is no strong post option available at this point in the draft. With fellow guard Miles back this season for Notre Dame, Citron's numbers might decline from last season's 17.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. But her potential as a versatile guard and 3-point shooter could make her a first-round selection.”
Citron was the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2021-2022 when she averaged 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds. She averaged 17.3 points and 5.5 rebounds last season while earning second team All-ACC honors. The senior has career averages of 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds while making 125 of 345 (36%) of her 3-pointers. She led the ACC by making 83 of 91 (91%) free throws.
The Fighting Irish will face five other players this season who are mocked to go in the first round: Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd (UConn), Rori Harmon (Texas), Sedona Prince (TCU), and Kiki Iriafen (USC).
