Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark have been compared to each other since the start of their college careers in 2020. It's something neither superstar can truly ignore.
Clark has already established herself as one of the best players in the WNBA. During her rookie season with the Indiana Fever, she averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. Her production in the second half of the season is a big reason why the franchise made the playoffs.
As Clark was battling in the WNBA last season, Bueckers was getting ready for her final season at UConn. After years of dealing with heartbreaking losses and serious injuries, she finally lifted the program to a national championship.
Shortly after leading UConn to a national title, Bueckers was selected by the Dallas Wings with the No. 1 pick.
Bueckers is the odds-on favorite to be the WNBA's Rookie of the Year. That might not be good enough though. She'll need to have a huge impact on the court just like Clark did in Indiana.
With the 2025 WNBA season about to begin, Bueckers shared her honest thoughts on constantly being compared to Clark.
"That’s what the media cares about," Bueckers told Time Magazine. "That’s what everybody who watches basketball cares about. I used to be bothered by it. But I’ve done so much work on myself and my approach. The ability to not run a race in comparison, to run my own race and worry about that. Caitlin’s a phenomenal player. We’re also completely different players."
Bueckers has proven time and time again that she knows how to handle tough questions. Her comments about Clark are no exception.
WNBA fans will get to see Bueckers and Clark square off on June 27 when the Wings host the Fever.
