The Dallas Wings and rookie standout Paige Bueckers have dropped their first four games, most recently falling to the Atlanta Dream, 83-75, on May 24.
Bueckers has been solid so far, averaging 13.0 points, 6.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game, but after one week, a few other rooks have emerged to challenge her for Rookie of the Year -- an award she felt like a shoo-in to win after getting drafted.
Noa Dalzell of SB Nation created a "way-too-early WNBA rookie ladder," and she has the Wings' No. 1 overall pick a few rungs down. Washington Mystics third overall pick Sonia Citron was ranked No. 1, followed by her teammate, Kiki Iriafen, who was ranked No. 2.
Saniya Rivers of the Connecticut Sun follows Bueckers at No. 4.
"The 6’3 forward has been masterful through three games as a pro, posting a double-double in each of the last two games and matching up well against the Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun’s bigs — a veteran group that includes some of the sport’s all-time greats in Brittney Griner and Tina Charles," Dalzell wrote about Iriafen, before weighing in on Bueckers' first week and a half as a pro.
With 17 PTS & 13 REB vs. the Aces, Kiki Iriafen joins Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Satou Sabally as the only rookies since 2020 to record three consecutive double-doubles!

"Bueckers has been less efficient than her incredibly efficient UConn self," Dalzell noted. "Still, she’s shown flashes of brilliance through her first week as a professional."
After four games, Citron is averaging 15.8 points and 4.0 rebounds a game, while Iriafen is netting 14.5 points and 10.8 boards per contest. If both stay healthy and the Mystics continue to play hard, we could be headed for a very entertaining and dramatic three-way RoY race.
