Dallas Wings rookie star Paige Bueckers faced an unexpected challenge before her team’s recent matchup against the Indiana Fever, but it had nothing to do with basketball.
As the Wings prepared to enter the tunnel before tipoff at the American Airlines Center, WNBA media decided to lighten the mood by asking players a fun celebrity question: If you had to choose between Drake, Usher or Chris Brown, who would you pick?
Some players answered quickly, a few chose Usher, others went for Chris Brown and some picked Drake without hesitation. But when it came to Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, it was clear the decision was not an easy one.
The video, later posted on the WNBA’s official Instagram account, shows Bueckers pausing, thinking deeply, and even smiling nervously before making her final choice. After a few moments of hesitation, she finally settled on Chris Brown.
This isn’t the first time Bueckers has caught attention for her off-court personality. Just weeks earlier, during the WNBA All-Star Weekend, she made headlines for naming Ellen Pompeo and Shemar Moore as her dream courtside guests. That lighthearted confession even earned her a playful response from Moore himself on Instagram.
The timing of the lighthearted exchange came just before the Wings faced the Fever. Dallas ultimately fell to Indiana, 88-78, dropping the Wings to 8-21 on the season. The Fever improved to 16-21 and extended their winning streak to four games.
The rookie guard entered the contest already carrying much of the scoring load for Dallas this season. She has quickly become one of the WNBA’s most talked-about first-year players, averaging 18.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
In the third quarter, Bueckers suffered a hard fall while trying to fight through a screen set by Indiana’s Aliyah Boston. She grabbed at her leg in visible pain and limped off the court.
For a moment, it seemed her night might be over. However, in true competitor fashion, she returned in the fourth quarter to finish the game.
Despite her efforts, the Wings couldn’t rally past the Fever, falling short and continuing a difficult stretch in their season.
And while her pick of Chris Brown over Drake and Usher may not impact the scoreboard, it’s a reminder that even under the bright lights of the WNBA, players are still real people with their own tastes, favorites, and tough decisions — even if those decisions involve three music superstars.
