The performance of the weekend came from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where the Indiana Fever dominated the Chicago Sky 93–58 to open their WNBA regular season.

Second-year superstar Caitlin Clark put on a show, recording a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, four blocks, and two steals. She tied the legendary Diana Taurasi for second all-time—behind only Courtney Vandersloot—for the most 20-point, 10-assist games in WNBA history.

On Monday, the performance drew major attention from Indianapolis sports fans and ESPN personality Pat McAfee, who praised Clark as “the one,” speaking highly of the former Iowa standout.

“She has surpassed everybody in the amount of time she’s played in the WNBA. She fills up every arena in every town she plays in,” McAfee said. “It was very obvious when she was in college that she was different."

He continued, "What she has done for this city and this team—she is the one. It pisses everybody off when we say it and obviously becomes a whole thing… but this is the golden goose. This is the one. This is the multigenerational player, and we’re incredibly lucky that she’s in Indianapolis.”

Clark has quickly become a household name across the sports world, and as the new WNBA season tips off, the Fever have championship aspirations after being eliminated in the first round last year.

Their offseason was busy, starting with the hiring of new head coach Stephanie White. The Fever then made several key additions to bolster the roster around Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, and Lexie Hull—all returners from last season. New faces include veterans DeWanna Bonner, Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard, and Sydney Colson.

Clark and the Fever return to action Tuesday night at home against the Atlanta Dream. They’ll then hit the road to face the Dream again on Thursday, looking to stack early-season wins and build momentum.
