Indiana Fever shooting guard Sophie Cunningham recently gave flowers to an important figure in her life that she likened to a mother, as she also admitted that people around her were making the same misconception.
In a recent story on Instagram , Sophie Cunningham posted a birthday greeting to her agent Amanda Allen.
“Happy birthday to the best agent out there!!!” Cunningham wrote. “Amanda Allen !! best year yet my girl
.”
“Some ppl think she’s is my mom or my older sister and I am not mad at it. She’s a bada** and stunning,” she added.
Amanda Allen has been Sophie Cunningham’s agent since 2025, when Cunningham signed her WNBA contract with the Phoenix Mercury under Allen’s representation. Before that, Cunningham was represented by Navarro Thompson for her first few years in the league.
Later, in February 2025, Cunningham was traded to the Indiana Fever, but she remained under Allen’s management.
Sophie Cunningham suffered a right ankle injury during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Connecticut Sun on May 30, 2025. She went down in the fourth quarter after making contact with Sun guard Marina Mabrey, attempting to set a screen before falling near the Sun bench. Trainers rushed to assess her condition, checking both her ankle and knee before helping her off the court. This injury is particularly concerning as it affects the same ankle she hurt during the preseason.
The Fever were already dealing with multiple injuries, including Caitlin Clark’s left quadriceps strain and Sydney Colson’s leg injury, leaving them with only eight available players. Cunningham had been filling in as an emergency backup point guard after Colson’s injury, making her absence even more challenging for the team.
Fever coach Stephanie White described Cunningham’s MRI results as “good news”, but emphasized that her recovery remains day-to-day.
The Indiana Fever have signed guard Aari McDonald using the WNBA’s emergency hardship exception, following a series of injuries that left the team shorthanded. With Caitlin Clark sidelined due to a left quadriceps strain and Sophie Cunningham suffering an ankle injury during the Fever’s loss to the Connecticut Sun, the team was left with only eight available players.
The hardship exception allows teams to sign a player when their roster drops below ten game-eligible players, making McDonald a crucial addition to Indiana’s depleted backcourt. Fever President Kelly Krauskopf emphasized the need for reinforcements, stating that the team is focused on maintaining competitiveness despite the setbacks.
Sophie Cunningham’s absence continues to be a significant challenge, but the Fever are determined to push forward with their new lineup adjustments.
