PHOENIX — The Phoenix Mercury looks to rebound from its first loss of the season, going against the Washington Mystics on Sunday, May 25.

Phoenix suffered its first loss of the season on May 23, in a 77-70 loss to the Seattle Storm. The Mercury struggled in the fourth quarter to get any shots in.
Rookie Monique Akoa-Makani shot three in a row to tie it up in the final minutes, but the Mercury couldn’t keep the rally going. Alyssa Thomas, Mercury’s lead scorer in the loss with 16 points, told media that the loss was expected considering the team was still getting used to each other.
“This is a great loss for us and we learned a lot tonight,” Thomas said.
Mystics Preview
Washington comes off a loss to the Las Vegas Aces on May 23, 75-72. The Mystics led for three quarters 59-50 before Las Vegas closed the nine-point deficit with 11 seconds left in the fourth and a go-ahead three-pointer by Aces’ Jewell Loyd in the final two seconds.
Washington’s lead scorer in the loss was Sonia Citron who scored 19 points, 54.5% from the field and 66.7% from three. Kiki Iriafen led the team in rebounds with 13, and Stefanie Dolson led assists with 8.

Phoenix and Washington last met on Sept. 5, 2024, where the Mystics took a 90-77 win in the desert.
Both teams look to shake off brutal losses and will go head to head late Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
