Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi happy with the team’s new direction

PHOENIX — Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi appeared on In Case You Missed It with Khristina Williams to discuss life after retirement, thoughts about her former team’s new direction and her favorite memories on the court.

Taurasi retired earlier this year after having spent her entire career in Phoenix. For the first time in 20 seasons, she spent WNBA’s opening night busy with her family. Now removed from competition, Taurasi appreciates the little moments she couldn’t fully enjoy.

“Now I can really just be here,” she said to Williams. “It’s been really nice to be around [my wife], the kids, and do all the things that I really have missed out on the last couple [of] years.”

The Mercury has begun a new era without Taurasi, and the Phoenix legend is happy with the team’s direction. She credited Mercury’s new trio of Kahleah Copper, Alyssa Thomas, and Satou Sabally and highlighted their unique attributes.

“I just love where we’re at right now,” the Mercury legend said.

When asked about her favorite memory in her 20-year career, Taurasi brought up Game Five of the 2009 WNBA Finals in Phoenix. The Mercury won its second WNBA title against the Indiana Fever in 2009, with Mercury coming back from a 2-1 series deficit.

“For us to go out there and to be able to win it at home, that to me, was always a great moment.”
