Chicago Sky star Angel Reese is about to get a new teammate, this time in the form of a returning Sky player, Courtney Vandersloot.
As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the WNBA veteran has confirmed she would return to the Sky as an unrestricted free agent.
The report said: “According to multiple sources out of Unrivaled, the Sky’s all-time assist leader is expected to make her return to the franchise that drafted her with the third overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft.”
During her first run with the Sky, Vandersloot became a four-time All-Star and became a six-time top name in league assists. She also set a WNBA record for most assists in a single game (18), which was only later surpassed by Fever star Caitlin Clark (19). After joining the Liberty, she added another assist title and another All-Star appearance under her name.
In 2021, Vandersloot and her wife, Allie Quigley—the Sky’s all-time leading scorer—played a major role in convincing WNBA legend Candace Parker to sign with her hometown team. Parker’s arrival was the catalyst for the Sky’s championship win.
As she returns to her former team, she is expected to boost their roster of a new generation of stars, including Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
Speaking to the Chicago Sun-Times, Vandersloot expressed his hopes for the Sky management and how they would utilize her skill to the fullest.
“When I heard [Pagliocca] was up for the [Sky’s GM] job, I absolutely was like, ‘He’s the right guy for it,’ ” Vandersloot said during the opening weekend of Unrivaled. “The way he can connect to players, you just don’t see a lot. As a GM, that’s the most important thing, is being able to connect with these players and get them to trust you. You build that relationship so they want to come here and they know the path that you’re taking this franchise is the right one.”
Angel Reese’s rebounding skills are expected to work hand-in-hand with Vandersloot’s playmaking and passing prowess.
In what may sound like the most out-of-this-world “what if” scenario in women’s sports, Angel Reese and Caitlin Claikr both got invited to take part in WWE’s upcoming biggest event, the Royal Rumble.
In a podcast , former WWE champion Bianca Belair called out to Reese and Clark to the wrestling ring.
“I wanted to invite Caitlin Clark. Come over to WWE, come join the Royal Rumble. So I’m like, ‘Caitlin Clark, come on over, you can bring Angel Reese with you, too.’ You know, she might throw some bows and she might be the last one standing but it’s like, bring (her) over.”
Angel Reese is currently busy with Unrivaled.
