So the Seattle Storm, huh? 8-5 is a pretty good start to any year all things considered but they’re not all made equal, are they? The Seattle Storm have been struggling since winning the 2020 finals.  So let’s look deeper into their 2025 start and if it’s a false dawn or if they have a chance again.

Key Wins Behind Seattle Storm’s Hot Start

Such as beating the 10+ wins Phoenix Mercury and one of the Minnesota Lynx’s only losses so far this year. So not bad at all plus even redeeming themselves  by beating the Las Vegas Aces the second time playing them. This is a great thing because they’re not exactly top tier so far this year. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut those awesome wins are balanced out with some questionable losses! Like to the Golden State Valkyries who again aren’t top-tier and that opening day loss to the Aces. So consistency and playing down to their opponents is a problem to look out for.

Storm Standouts So Far in 2025

Excellent question so let’s get into it! First, we gotta get into Seattle Storm’s best bucket-getter that being the awesomely named, Skylar Diggins. The player most responsible for getting the Seattle Storm fans off their feet. So far she’s the 10th-best scorer in the WNBA this year so she’s scoring like college Michael Beasley then! With Nneka Ogwumike not far behind with 17.2 PPG putting her 12th overall in WNBA scoring. Diggins 45.3% makes her more efficient than many of the top guards such as Plum and Young. While Ogwumike is incredibly efficient with a 53.6%  field goal percentage. Meaning the Seattle’s Storm top scorers aren’t wasting shots, which is always a great thing.

Seattle Storm’s Role Players Making an Impact

In at least three of their wins, Erica Wheeler had 15+ points at least, and in wins against the Aces and Sparks at least four starters had 10+ points. While in their game against the Lynx, all five starters had 10+ points. So could you imagine if the rest of the team were always this consistent, the Seattle Storm would be undefeated for sure! No idea if it’s an issue with the players if they’re better against certain opponents than awful against others. Or if the coaching staff can better work how to put players like Wheeler in better scoring spots.

Either way there’s a lot of hard to be done by someone if the Seattle Storm want that 5th ever title!

Can the Storm Return to the WNBA Finals in 2025?

Well, any team that’s 3rd in the Western Conference has a pretty good chance of making the finals always. Look at the Indiana Pacers over in the men’s league, they were 4th in the Eastern Conference before making the finals this year! Plus against teams like the Lynx or Mercy shows that they can punch up and punch bigger teams knockout style but that inconsistency and relying on their 2 top scorers are way too easy to exploit come playoff time. So as long as they have these weaknesses they will be exposed and a round 1 exit will even be possible again.
