Caitlin Clark might be the face of the WNBA right now, but even stars hit rough patches—and her three-point shot has gone ice cold.
In Saturday’s 90-88 loss to the defending champion New York Liberty, Clark struggled once again from long range, going just 2-of-12 from three, with both makes coming late in the third quarter. Prior to that, she had missed her first five attempts through just 18 minutes of play, marking another game where her signature shot seemed to vanish.
The cold streak had already started earlier in the week when Caitlin Clark went 0-of-7 from downtown in the Fever’s 81-76 win over the Atlanta Dream. It was the first game in her entire pro or college career since Jan. 13, 2022, that she didn’t make a single three-pointer—snapping a 42-game streak dating back to her sophomore year at Iowa.
Clark’s slump hasn’t gone unnoticed. Sports media personality Skip Bayless took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a blunt challenge to the rookie phenom:
“COME ON, CAITLIN, SNAP OUT OF IT. SHOOT IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT. YOU’RE CAPABLE OF MAKING 10 IN A ROW.”
And while Clark didn’t exactly heat up from deep, she still made a major impact. She racked up 10 assists, fueling a third-quarter surge that nearly flipped the game in Indiana’s favor. That dime tally pushed her past Chelsea Gray on the WNBA’s double-double list for guards—a testament to her all-around game even when the shots aren’t falling.
The missed threes may dominate headlines, but Caitlin Clark’s playmaking and ability to keep her team competitive shouldn’t be overlooked. Her step-back triple late in the third gave the Fever an eight-point lead before the Liberty stormed back in the fourth.
Even in defeat, Clark finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists—a near triple-double and another reminder that she’s more than just a shooter.
As the Fever prepare for their next game against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, all eyes will be on Clark to see if she can snap out of the slump and get back to raining threes.
