Sky rookie Angel Reese continued double-double craze in WNBA All-Star Game, made history
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Considered one of the higher-rated prospects coming out of college at LSU in April, the Chicago Sky drafted forward Angel Reese with the No. 7 pick, selecting a player who has instantly become one of the best up-and-coming talents in women’s basketball.

Making the transition from college to the pros has been seamless for the 22-year-old as she has averaged 13.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in her first WNBA season, being an automatic double-double game in and game out. Before the WNBA All-Star break, she finished with a double-double in 16 out of the 17 games leading up to it and had 15 of them consecutively until it was snapped on July 13 vs. the New Liberty when she had 16 rebounds and 8 points.

Mentioning this season about how important rebounding is to her game, Reese makes it a mission of hers to get as many boards as possible and she showcased that once again at the 2024 WNBA All-Star game.

The Maryland native scored 12 points and collected 11 rebounds in 18 minutes of action, becoming the first rookie to record a double-double in WNBA All-Star game history.

Adding on top of what she accomplished, the old college rivalry between herself and former Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark was brushed to the side with them being teammates on Team WNBA and connecting to score. The Indiana Fever’s Clark ended with four points and 10 assists in the 117-109 Team WNBA win over Team USA.

Reaching a feat like this in her young career, it will only springboard Reese’s confidence going into the second portion of the season following the Olympic break. Sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot as things stand, Chicago is 10-14 and will return back to action on August 15 when they host the Phoenix Mercury.

With her not making the Olympic roster that is heading to Paris, Reese will only improve from here on out and will strive to have a significantly bigger case to make the Team USA roster when the 2028 Olympic Games head to Los Angeles next.

Regardless, Reese showcasing the skill and talent she has in front of a large audience at the All-Star Game will continue to boost the hype around the rookie phenom and is projected to be a future star for years to come.
