Angel Reese is facing a situation where her future with the Chicago Sky has become a matter of concern. With just 2 games left in their regular season, it is unclear if she will play another game for her team.

It all started when The Chicago Tribune ran a story where they quoted the 6′ 3″ forward as claiming that she has instructed the front office to get players, or else she may look to play elsewhere.

This appeared to be a slight towards her teammates, and they demanded a team meeting. She apparently apologized and then reaffirmed her apology in the post-game press conference.

The Sky, however, decided that he comments were detrimental to team harmony and also painted the organization in a bad light. For that, they suspended Reese for the 1st half of their September 7th away game against the Las Vegas Aces.

She sat out and then did not join the game in the 2nd half, citing a back injury. Amidst concerns of a total breakdown in trust amongst the Sky, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was asked by her Show Me Something podcast co-host about Reese’s comments.

That’s not great. There’s just some things that you can’t say… You got to protect your locker room. You just can’t be saying everything you are feeling. It’s just not a good look. Then your teammates feel a certain way, and that causes division in the locker room. Protect your locker room at all costs.

The 29-year-old understands where Angel Reese is coming from, as any player would feel frustrated amidst back-to-back losing seasons. However, she does not believe the said player should publicly reveal her frustrations.

Angel Reese skipped 2nd game against Aces

After missing the September 7th game against the Las Vegas Aces, there were doubts about whether Angel Reese would play another game this season.

Before the game, the LSU star did warm up, and her head coach, Tyler Marsh , reiterated that she was looking to play. That did not happen, and she missed their 2nd game against the Aces earlier.

Throughout the game, it felt as if the WNBA rebounding phenom was content to spend time with one of the Sky’s staff members, as she was not communicating with anyone else. When Marsh was asked after the game about the late decision, he replied.

After warmups, she communicated that she just wasn’t feeling it physically. So she reported that pain. Again, we did not want to hold her back.

Tyler Marsh replied

The Sky’s 1st year head coach’s reply reveals it was a last-minute decision. That decision, though, throws up questions about her state of mind, as Angel Reese did not seem very thrilled to be around her teammates.

Angel Reese looked uninterested in teammate’s birthday celebration

Before the game, the Chicago State of Mind Sports media house revealed some clips from the Sky’s practice before their 2nd game against the Aces.

In one of those clips, the team is seen standing in two lines waiting for rookie Hailey Van Lith to run past them so they could smack her as part of her birthday celebration.

The odd part of that clip is that Angel Reese was standing behind the line closest to the camera and did not attempt to join in the celebration. She was hanging back and speaking to a Sky staffer.

Both times Van Lith ran through the line, the forward did not make an effort. If anything, these instances show she is either completely put off by the team’s reaction to her criticisms or that she possibly wants to leave the Chicago Sky.

It is surprising, as Angel Reese had lobbied the front office to select her former LSU teammate Van Lith. Now it seems the entire team is on one side, while the 23-year-old forward is on the other.
