Sophie Cunningham’s first season with the Indiana Fever was filled with optimism before injury struck. The veteran guard joined the team ahead of the 2025 WNBA season to provide leadership and depth to a young, talented roster built around Caitlin Clark. Cunningham made an immediate impact, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 30 games, while shooting 43.2% from three before suffering a season-ending right MCL tear in August against the Connecticut Sun.

Despite the setback, she remained active around the team and formed a close bond with Clark, who also endured a season-ending injury later in the campaign. Both players were frequently seen courtside during Indiana’s impressive postseason run, cheering on their teammates and displaying the strong chemistry that had developed between them.

With WNBA players now enjoying a well-deserved offseason break, Cunningham gave fans an inside look at the Fever’s locker room dynamic on the latest episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast.

When asked by her co-host West Wilson whether Clark has influence behind the scenes, she replied:

“Yeah, as she should. When you have a generational talent like that, she should have a lot to say of the system.”

Cunningham also praised Clark’s growing partnership with veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell:

“When she got in with Kelsey Mitchell, those two both need the ball in their hands,” Cunningham said. “But they’ve played together enough that they both get that opportunity, and when they can elevate each other, that team is unstoppable.”

Clark has earned widespread praise from teammates and coaches alike not just for her performance on the court, but also her leadership and maturity. Before her injury, she averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games and was selected to her second consecutive WNBA All-Star Game, serving as team captain.

Despite missing the latter part of the season, Clark’s vital role as the Fever’s star player and the voice helping to shape the team’s future direction remains without question.
