It hasn’t taken long for Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers to make her presence felt in the WNBA after an historic collegiate career at UConn.
While the Wings currently don’t look like a team headed for the postseason, Bueckers is the clear favorite to win Rookie of the Year—and rightfully so. She’s averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
The Wings last took the court on Friday against the Indiana Fever. Despite the 88–78 loss, Bueckers impressed with 22 points, four rebounds, and four assists, earning the respect of the opposition.
On Tuesday, Fever guard and fan favorite Sophie Cunningham made her opinion of Bueckers extremely clear during the second episode of her new podcast, "Show Me Something."
“I love her,” Cunningham said. “I don’t really have a relationship with her off the floor at all. I just love her vibe and her energy. I think she’s a good human and a great basketball player, but also a great teammate and phenomenal leader. She’s probably gonna get Rookie of the Year, as she should... She legit has a bag... she’s fun to play against. I like her.”

Sophie Cunningham has been starting for the Fever, largely due to Caitlin Clark’s absence since the All-Star break as she continues to rehab a groin injury. In Friday’s matchup against Paige Bueckers and the Wings, Cunningham contributed six points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 29 minutes of action—and even shared a memorable in-game moment with the rookie.
“Like, we were kind of chatting it up last game,” Cunningham recalled. “We played on Friday, and I’m just gonna break it down. There was this one play in the second half—she went left, I cut her off, and she did a step-through and banked it in… and we were running back, and she goes, ‘Yeah, I traveled there on that last one.’”
The Fever and Wings have already faced off three times this season, with Indiana winning each matchup. They’re set to meet one final time in the regular season next Tuesday, with the game taking place in Indiana.
