Sophie Cunningham is now one of the faces of the Indiana Fever, but there was a time when the star was only associated with another WNBA franchise. Cunningham was a longtime teammate of Brittney Griner on the Phoenix Mercury before both stars made a change during the offseason.
The two WNBA stars still maintain a close relationship. Cunningham continues to lean on things that she learned from Griner now that she is in Indiana.
Here is how Cunningham reflected on her time alongside Griner and Diana Taurasi in Phoenix.

Times have changed with Taurasi now in retirement, and Griner helping the Dream stack up wins. Cunningham still has fond memories from when the trio played together.
"They're such great people," Cunningham told Ball Is Life's Aya Abdeen regarding Griner and Taurasi. "They're hall of famers in our league."
During the preseason, Cunningham's interaction with Griner grabbed attention. Cunningham and Griner shared a playful moment prior to the preseason contest between the Dream and Fever on May 10. The Indiana star also took to social media after the game to show love to Griner.

"I miss this dingus but we are both very happy now!!" Cunningham noted in a May 10, message on X.
Griner may now be wearing a different jersey, but the center still reflects fondly on her 11 seasons with the Mercury. Back in June, Griner reacted to returning to Phoenix while playing for the Dream.

"Just being back on the court where I basically started my career on, played the majority of it, it just felt good," Griner said on June 24, per ESPN.
"The crowd, seeing familiar faces, hearing old stories, signing jerseys that I've signed like a thousand times, it was good. It was a really good feeling."
Griner is currently fighting through a challenging stretch. The last time fans saw the WNBA star on the court, Griner was ejected after making contact with an official during the Dream's 88-85 win over the Dallas Wings on July 30.
Griner has yet to play in Aug. as the star continues to be sidelined with an injury.
