Sophie Cunningham was forced to watch the Indiana Fever's improbable WNBA playoff run from the sidelines after suffering an MCL tear late in the regular season. With many other players out due to injury, including Caitlin Clark, the Fever still managed to make it to the semifinals, but fell in a close Game 5 to the Las Vegas Aces.
Cunningham now has a big decision to make as she enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Clark, on the other hand, has two years remaining on her rookie deal and has remained comfy in Indianapolis. In fact, the former Iowa Hawkeyes guard attended the Colts' win over the Raiders on Sunday, before attending an Adam Sandler show on Monday.
Sandler performed at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Fever, as part of his stand-up comedy tour, “You’re My Best Friend Tour.” Fellow actor Nick Swardson also joined him for the Indianapolis stop. Clark got to meet both comedians, and on Tuesday, Sandler shared a photo of the two.
"Indiana!" Sandler wrote on Instagram. "Holy cow! Great Monday hang! Can’t wait for the next one! @gainbridgefieldhouse See you Sunday, Toronto @scotiabankarena"
Cunningham caught a glimpse of Clark and Sandler's photo, leaving her response in the comments.
"NO WAY," Cunnigham wrote.
While Clark is enjoying some time off to start the offseason, she knows it will soon be time to get back to work, hinting that she could be participating in USA Basketball in the near future.
"Like I said, there is some USA Basketball stuff that is probably my top priority right now that I need to prepare for and I think that will help me prepare for next season, too," Clark said. "There's just a lot of different things you've got to figure out and balance (and) I'll work through all that, too."
