Sophie Cunningham's Wild Statement Raises Eyebrows After Another Object is Thrown on WNBA Court

The WNBA has inherited a new, unique problem over the past week. For the second time in just three days, two separate fans have decided to hurl something onto the court, in the midst of game action.

It has always been made clear at sporting events, that fans throwing objects on the court, field, or ice, is strictly prohibited and will lead to immediate ejection. Unfortunately, the recent behavior by these two WNBA spectators has been contrary to these simple rules.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday inside Gateway Center, the home of the Atlanta Dream. The second inside Wintrust Arena, the home of the Chicago Sky. Coincidentally, the Golden State Valkyries were the visiting opponent in both scenarios.

While many WNBA players have stepped up to voice their strong opinions, every last one standing in opposition of this "disrespectful" trend, none have said it has clearly and as bluntly as Indiana Fever guard, Sophie Cunningham.

On Friday night, following the second incident, Cunningham took to X, to send a clear but wild statement to those choosing to throw sex toys on the court.

"stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us." Cunningham posted on her official X account.

Cunningham has proven she's not afraid to say what she's thinking, so she kept her message simple and straight to the point.

While concise, her wild statement has been viewed over six million times just five hours since being posted, and has raised the eyebrows of many.

"It's up to the league and the players to navigate this. Balls in your court." one user posted.

"How has the culprit not been found," another user posted.

"come on people do better," another fan said.

"Sophie you are amazing and a huge credit to your team and the league. Always rooting for you!" another supporter said.

"I can’t believe we live in a time in which a professional athlete is making a public request to stop throwing dildos onto the basketball court due to safety concerns. Gotta be the first time ever. Historic!! another user posted.

Cunningham has garnered a lot of attention during her first season with the Fever. Whether it's been protecting Caitlin Clark, posting viral TikToks, or wearing eye-popping pregame outfits, Cunningham has risen to stardom this season.

Hopefully her emphatic statement will keep WNBA spectators from throwing sex toys on the court moving forward.
