The Los Angeles Sparks are heading into the new season with a rejuvenated optimism as they look to move on from a miserable campaign last year.
The Sparks finished with a league-worst 8-32 win-loss record last season, which led to the firing of Curt Miller as coach. Now, with Lynne Roberts calling the shots, the team is expected to create a different culture.
The Sparks' biggest offseason move was acquiring Kelsey Plum from the Las Vegas Aces in a three-team trade that also involved the Seattle Storm.
The three-time All-Star guard is expected to lead the charge for Los Angeles, especially on offense. The Sparks only averaged 78.4 points per game last season.
Plum dazzled in her purple uniform on Sparks' media day, as posted by celebrity makeup artist Heather Renee on her Instagram story.
"Sun in my eyes. Media day year four with my girl @kelseyplum10," wrote Renee.
The Sparks are also excited for the return of Cameron Brink, who was limited to only 15 games in her rookie season due to an ACL injury. She worked hard in the offseason to fully recover, and now, she could be the anchor of the team's defense.
Renee also shared a picture with the 23-year-old Brink during the Sparks' media day.
"Makeup on this doll today @cameronbrink22," read the Instagram story.
The Sparks only had one preseason game, surviving the Golden State Valkyries, 83-82. Plum had 11 points, two rebounds and five assists, while Brink sat out the contest.
The two teams will meet again when they open the WNBA season on Friday.
