The Los Angeles Sparks are hoping to rebound after finishing with the WNBA's worst record last year and compete for a playoff spot this year.
They improved their record to 2-3 on Sunday after defeating the Chicago Sky 91-78. Kelsey Plum led the way for Los Angeles by scoring 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and 6-of-10 from 3-point range while dishing off eight assists.
Plum's arrival in an early February trade infused the Sparks with some much-needed talent. On one play in Sunday's game, she drove past Sky star Angel Reese and scored a layup, then hit Reese with the "too small" gesture.

The Sparks used a photo of Plum making the gesture in a post on their official X account.

Plum is just 5-foot-8 and Reese is 6-foot-3, which made the gesture gutsy and perhaps even comical.
The guard, who made the All-Star team in each of the last three seasons, is off to a hot start this season. In the Sparks' season opener against the Golden State Valkyries, she went off for 37 points and made 11 of her 19 shot attempts and all 11 of her free throw tries.
While Reese's rebounding has been outstanding, she has struggled with her shooting. But she didn't do too badly on Sunday — she went 5-of-11 from the field and finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
With that loss, the Sky are 0-3 on the young season. They will visit the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday before they have a home-and-away series against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.
