The Indiana Fever pulled off a massive win on Sunday in a road matchup against the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena. After going down by as many as 21 points, the Fever clawed their way back to secure an impressive 99-93 win in overtime to snap their two-game losing streak.
After the victory, Indiana head coach Stephanie White was asked to comment on the tight playoff race as the regular season heads into the home stretch. After Sunday’s games across the league, the Fever climbed to sixth in the league and are inching closer toward securing a spot in the postseason.
According to White, the Fever needs to lock into every single game from here on out.
"This was the most important game for us," White said. "Connecticut is our most important opponent. We cannot look too far ahead. We don't have the luxury of that, and we've got to make sure that we're continuing to stay locked into the moment."
The Sun currently have the worst record in the WNBA at 6-27. Sunday’s matchup was not exactly do-or-die for the Fever, but White’s comments emphasize how crucial each game is for her team at this point in the season.
Indiana also cannot be bogged down by everything that’s going on around it in the standings. The Fever must control the things that they can, and this boils down to winning their games.
Indiana has a crucial stretch coming up as they battle the league-best Minnesota Lynx in back-to-back contests on Friday and Sunday. Those games will be a good test for the Fever and their championship aspirations this season.
