Sue Bird announces 2022 as her final WNBA season

In February, future Hall of Famer Sue Bird re-signed with the only WNBA team she's ever known — the Seattle Storm. It turns out that this summer will be the 41-year-old's final run in the league.

The announcement likely doesn't come as a surprise to most fans, as Bird is now in her 20th season. On top of her time in the WNBA, she's logged loads of extra miles on her body during her five Olympics' appearances and hosts of other national and international competitions.

The 2002 first overall pick out of UConn is a 12-time All-Star, four-time WNBA champion and has five First Team All-WNBA honors. Bird, who is also the league's all-time leader in assists (3,114) and games played (559) is averaging 7.8 points, 6.6 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals through 10 contests this season.

Seattle enters play Thursday on a four-game winning streak and with the fourth-best record in the WNBA at 9-5.
