Sue Bird Names Favorite WNBA Player Over Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Sue Bird had a clear pick about her favorite active WNBA player. The four-time WNBA champion is watching the game from afar, admiring the new generation of players and praising the top names who entered the league after she retired in 2022.

Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers are two of the biggest names expected to lead the W's popularity to new heights. The Indiana Fever star is playing her second season, while the Dallas Wings' young guard just started her journey in the league.

They made history in college and now are eager to do the same in the pros. Bird has praised them multiple times since their college days and wishes them the best in the W, although she doesn't have Clark or Bueckers as her favorite WNBA player.

During a Tuesday interview with Taylor Rooks, Bird shared her thoughts on the current WNBA landscape. The Seattle Storm legend was asked about her favorite player at the moment, and she jokingly said she likes the "OGs," who are all retired now.

After giving their flowers to Clark and Bueckers, Bird picked one player over the young duo.

"It's hard not to say Caitlin Clark," Bird said. "It's hard not to say a lot of these younger players. It's been fun to watch Paige get her WNBA career going. Oh, you know what? And this isn't because she's a Seattle Storm player. I love Nneka Ogwumike.

"I just really appreciate a player where you know exactly what you're gonna get from her. So consistent, shows up every day. It doesn't mean you always hit every shot, it doesn't mean you always play your best, but the effort and what you know you're gonna get from her in that regard is so consistent."

Ogwumike plays the game with the same intensity every single night. As Bird noted, she doesn't always make every shot she attempts, but her approach to the game never changes.

The power forward has been with the Storm since 2024 after playing with the Los Angeles Sparks from 2012 through 2023, winning the MVP award and the WNBA championship in 2016.

She's the leader of her squad alongside Skylar Diggins and Lexie Brown, as the Storm (3-2) fight to return to the top of the league for the first time since 2020.
