Team USA bounces back defeating Germany in final exhibition

Team USA played their last exhibition game against Satou Sabally and the Germany national team. A’ja Wilson led USA to an 84-57 victory against Germany, scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

This game started the same way the All-Star game did, with a Diana Taurasi three-pointer putting Team USA up first. Team USA dominated the opening quarter, leading 9-2 early and 22-9 at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Germany would cut into the deficit, coming within 7 points halfway through 27-20. USA responded with a 12-3 run to extend their lead to 39-23. The United States would lead by double digits for the remainder of the quarter, going into halftime 44-32. Breanna Stewart led all scorers at halftime with 13 points, while A’ja Wilson had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The third quarter Team USA would start the quarter with a 7-0 run increasing the lead to 19, 51-32 and they would not look back. A’ja Wilson scored 9 of her 19 points in the third quarter, ending with 19 points and 14 rebounds. She would not play in the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter Team USA would dominate on the defensive end holding Germany to just 7 points in the quarter while scoring 20 points. Jackie Young scored six of her eight points in the fourth quarter, but her no-look pass stole the show.

Team USA would go on to win the game 84-57, outscoring Germany 40-25 in the second half. A’ja Wilson led Team USA, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds in only 25 minutes of play. Breanna Stewart ended with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and one block.

Jewell Loyd was efficient off the bench finishing with 11 points on 4-6 shooting in just 14 minutes of play. Alyssa Thomas, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jackie Young all ended with 8 points off the bench, while Chelsea Gray had 6 points on 2-2 from three.

Team USA will travel to Paris to begin Olympic action versus Japan on the 29th at noon Pacific Time. They will play Belgium on August 1st at noon pacific time, followed by the same German team on August 4th at 8:15 a.m. pacific time.
