The award tour continues for Las Vegas Aces 4x WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson on Thursday evening as she is honored in her home state of South Carolina.

It is being reported by multiple South Carolina media outlets that Wilson is being honored fresh off of a third WNBA championship in the last four years with the Las Vegas Aces. With her jersey already in the rafters and a statue out front of Colonial Life Arena, Wilson is now in the University of South Carolina’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

This newest accolade just means a little more than the others.

Wilson said, “This is definitely, probably, top 3. When you’re a Hall-of-Famer, no matter where you are, it’s special.  It’s truly been a long journey, but this city, this state has welcomed me with wide-open arms.”

Perhaps, this is the biggest honor for Wilson since graduating from USC in 2018.

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said, “It means impact. (Wilson and 2024 inductee Tiffany Mitchell) made a tremendous amount of impact in our community, for our program, for our athletics department,” said her coach, Dawn Staley, as she warmed up to once again rib her best-ever player. “And it’s probably the only way we can get A’ja to come back to South Carolina — put her in the Hall of Fame somewhere. We’re going to have to make Hall of Fames up so she can come back more often.”

Wilson continued, “I’m just grateful to be a Hall-of-Famer now. This year has been phenomenal, starting with my jersey retirement to getting my third championship to now. I just want to continue to put a footprint on my legacy and women’s basketball.”

“I don’t know what is left, but I’m greedy. I will go after it, always. Maybe that’s what’s next — more.”
