It is being reported by ESPN that the two-time WNBA champion Sydney Colson is leaving the Las Vegas Aces in free agency and heading to the Indiana Fever. Colson signed a one-year deal with the Fever as a free agent. Colson is expected to back up star guard Caitlin Clark.
Colson has spent the three seasons with the Aces winning back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. The veteran guard brings a championship pedigree to the Fever and their young squad.
The Fever also signed Natasha Howard and DeWanna Bonner also in free agency.
Sydney Colson was a second-round pick from Texas A & M in the 2011 WNBA Draft coming fresh off of a national championship. She then started her career with the New York Liberty before she spent time with San Antonio, Minnesota, Chicago, and Las Vegas.
She averaged under 10 minutes playing time under Becky Hammon, her teammates and coaches point out the leadership and professionalism on the court. All of those attributes have have contributed to the Aces locker room in an impactful way.
In the 2023 Aces title run, Colson finished with a plus/minus +17 in game 4 of the WNBA finals, coming off of the bench and turning up her defense.
Aces fans will miss her as she has become an off the court favorite.
Colson and teammate Theresa Plaisance recently starred in a comedy series,”The Syd & TP Show.”
The Aces may be in the market for another front court player to accompany MVP A’ja Wilson this season.
