Video shows Kelsey Plum calling out autograph hawks outside team hotel

Kelsey Plum was not a fan of how some autograph seekers came at her this week.

Viral video emerged this week showing the Los Angeles Sparks star guard Plum calling out some autograph hawks who were waiting outside of the team hotel as the Sparks players were about to board their bus. Plum, who was walking with Sparks teammate Dearica Hamby, approached the autograph seekers and called them out.

“Don’t y’all find that kinda weird?” Plum asked them. “Lowkey? Like, lowkey, come on.

“I’m really turned off right now, I’m not gonna lie,” added Plum.

One autograph seeker replied to her, “I’m just a fan,” and Plum responded, “I know, appreciate that.” She was also shown on video ultimately signing an autograph for that person as well as for one other person in the area.

The Sparks played in Minnesota against the Lynx last Saturday, so it is possible that the video was shot there. They then returned home to face the Seattle Storm on Tuesday and will be headed back to Minnesota to face the Lynx again this coming Saturday.

Some would argue that the recent increase in coverage of and interest in the WNBA is a major positive, so thus Plum shouldn’t be complaining. However, others would argue that autograph hawks are aggressive and borderline creepy, especially when it is far more likely than they are selling off the autographs that they get rather than keeping them for a personal collection.

This viral video of Plum comes after another female sports star, gymnast Livvy Dunne, recently complained about her own experience with autograph seekers. Dunne said in a video posted to her TikTok that she was being stalked at airports by middle-aged men and being harassed for her autograph.
