Sometimes, even for the most elite athletes, it's just not their night.
Women's basketball star Brianna Stewart, who plays for the WNBA's New York Liberty, displayed one of the most uncharacteristic defensive performances of her career Monday night.
Rather, her opponent, Washington Mystics rookie Aaliyah Edwards, put on one of the most dominant offensive clinics in recent memory.
The two faced off in the inaugural "Unrivaled 1v1 tournament," with the 22-year-old Edwards blanking the veteran Stewart, 12-0.

"Unrivaled" is a three-on-three women's basketball league founded by Stewart and Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier in 2023.
It consists of six teams with as many players on each roster. The league made its debut on Jan. 17 and introduced the one-on-one tournament as a way to spice up the competition.
Players are seeded into a bracket-style, single-elimination tournament in which match winners determined by whoever reaches 11 points first or whoever is leading after 10 minutes.
The winner of the championship (a best-of-three series) takes home a hefty $250K grand prize.
Edwards (No. 8 seed) pulled off one of the tournament's biggest upsets, toppling Stewart (No. 1 seed) in the first round in such commanding fashion.
Games will continue to be played Feb. 11 and 14, and can be watched on TNT and TruTV.
