“We could have a Caitlin Clark come and play here.” Lauren Jackson, a WNBA legend and special advisor to the Women’s National Basketball League, or the WNBL, Australia’s leading Women’s basketball league.

The Caitlin Clark fever is still going strong as the Indiana Fever, no pun intended, guard has been making a statement on and off the court. With her strong showing in her rookie-sophomore years, add that to a captivating, intelligent, charismatic personality, any team–nay, any league would love to have her.

And in that spirit, Jackson, who is looking to strengthen Australia as another avenue for aspiring and future world-class women ballers, thinks that investing in players like Caitlin Clark would be beneficial in so many ways.

“I think, having that vision and that in the back of our minds, absolutely, yes: we could have a Caitlin Clark come and play here,” Jackson told ESPN on Tuesday [12:10]. “Obviously, it would cost a lot of money, but I think that should be the ambition, that should be the goal.”

But Jackson isn’t just eyeing Caitlin Clark. Looking at the bigger picture, she’s thinking of great players who can change the complexion of the WNBL. Players like Breanna Stewart or A’ja Wilson. Players with the charm and the skill would put more eyes on the sport, more people in the seats, and more money in the bank.

Sophomore years with All-Star numbers for Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark is currently putting out impressive numbers while bringing her Indiana Fever team to third best in their side of the nation. At 19.8 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.6 turnovers per game at the time of writing, she has been one of the anchors that is keeping the Fever dream in steady waters. And for a player in her freshman-sophomore years, this is already in the making of an elite player.

And while Caitlin Clark and her crew’s lack of experience has been put in question in big games at times, it goes to show that they still have plenty of room for growth.

“And I think that’s kind of what we were lacking last year. We got to the playoffs, and not only have we not won championships, we barely had playoff experience.” – Caitlin Clark on Indiana Fever Day

The trajectory is positive, but the league is already benefiting the Caitlin Clark show regardless of where the Fevers end up. One thing is for sure, a huge number of fans would love to see her sophomore season end on a high.
