Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky greatly struggled as they opened the WNBA season with a 0-3 record, following huge losses in the past week. Despite the early setbacks, Reese candidly calls for unity in her team.
The Sky headlined the season opener last May 17 but fell to the Indiana Fever in a 93-58 lopsided loss. Reese showed consistency that night with 12 points and 17 rebounds but stumbled in the next outing against the New York Liberty, managing just two points on 0-out-of-8 shooting.
With criticisms surrounding her poor post-play, the former LSU Tiger made up by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday’s game against the LA Sparks, only for Chicago to suffer another huge loss, 91-78.
Following the latest defeat, Angel Reese shared her thoughts on the team’s struggles and stressed the need for cohesion moving forward.
“We have to stay together. It’s tough losing 3 in a row,” Reese said.

The “Bayou Barbie” also expressed gratitude to Sky fans for their unwavering support, vowing to keep fighting in the games ahead.
“Being able to feel the love everywhere we go is always great,” Reese added. “It helps us keep our intensity up and we feed off that energy.
“Just being able to stay locked in and focused, ignoring the outside, but also hearing the claps and encouragement because I know a lot of people do believe in us. We’re going to continue to fight.”

Other than Chicago, the Dallas Wings (0-4) and the Connecticut Sun (0-3) are among the WNBA teams yet to record a win this season.
After the Sky’s recent match against the Sparks, Angel Reese addressed questions about her hustle and performance despite the team’s setbacks and heavy criticisms. She also gave her insights on how the team’s veterans will be a factor in helping them regain their energy this season.
“I am just trying to focus on what I need to do for the team,” Reese said. “I know my teammates need me to facilitate and rebound and do a lot of things on the defensive end, so I just try to let the game come to me, but I know what my teammates need me to do every night, so I try to do it as best as I can.”
“We have great vets. … They’ve been in this league for a while. They know what it takes to win in this league. We’re not happy obviously, and we’re not satisfied at all. We’re hungry for a win, and I think just taking our time, day by day, we have a lot more games left and we just have to stay poised.”
Angel Reese and the Sky will face the 3-1 Phoenix Mercury on the road on Tuesday and the Dallas Wings at home on Thursday.
