The Las Vegas Aces fought off elimination with a resounding 95-81 blowout win in game three against the Liberty. The win was the 12th straight playoff victory at home for the Aces.

After losing the first two games, they will try to become the first team in WNBA history to come back and win the series.

New York

The Liberty have only lost consecutive games once this season, in May. They have also only lost once by double digits, and their game-three loss to the Aces was the second-worst loss of the season. Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu combined to go 8-for-24 with just 23 points.

The Aces defense caused problems for Ionescu by constantly pressing her and forcing her into double teams and traps. Ionescu had been playing brilliantly in the playoffs until game three. Ionescu was the leading scorer for the Liberty in the regular season and the playoffs but was limited to only four points on 1-7 shooting.

Once the Aces shut her down, the rest of the team could not figure out how to score. The rest of the team was plagued by inefficient shooting and lousy defense in the paint.

The Liberty shot 38.8 percent from the field and made only 12-of-29 threes. The defensive side of the ball was just as bad as they allowed 42 points in the paint.

The game was a nightmare for the Liberty as they were unable to score on the offensive end and they couldn’t stop the Aces on the defensive end. The Liberty did not hold the lead at any point in the second half and looked outmatched for most of the game.

Las Vegas

The Aces had their backs against the wall in game three and certainly played like it.

They got tremendous performances from their backcourt, as Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, and Kelsey Plum combined for 54 points, 13 assists, and nine 3-pointers. The game swung on a 21-6 third-quarter run in which the Aces opened the lead up to 20 points.

Another key to this win for the Aces was their rebounding. They improved on the glass, finishing with 34 rebounds after averaging 25 in the first two games.

Once Jonquel Jones into foul trouble, the Aces were able to attack the paint and create additional scoring opportunities with second-chance rebounds. A’ja Wilson didn’t have to carry the scoring burden as the Aces had five players finish in double figures.

Tiffany Hayes, fresh off of winning her sixth Player of the Year honor, was fantastic in this game. She had three steals and seemed to constantly be in the right place at the right time to finish with 11 points.

Liberty-Aces Best Bet

The Aces have been unbeatable at home in the playoffs and it’s tough to see that changing. I don’t expect the Aces to shut down Ionescu again, but the last game felt like the Aces had unlocked their offense.

The first three games of this series have all hit the over as we’ve seen plenty of offense in this matchup. This game should be much lower scoring as both teams will ratchet up the defensive intensity.

This rivalry between these two teams has been great for the league and exciting to watch, and I don’t see it ending just yet. While I considered the total, I’m betting on the Aces to extend this series to a fifth game.

The Aces on the moneyline is the best bet in this one.
