Phoenix Mercury star Satou Sabally is showing her strong spirit even while facing an ankle injury that has left her “day-to-day,” according to her coach Nate Tibbetts.

Sabally’s status is uncertain for Phoenix’s next game on Monday against her former team, the Dallas Wings. She didn’t practice on Sunday and was seen wearing a boot on her right leg.

The injury comes after Sabally took hard falls during the Mercury’s loss to the Wings on July 3. So far this season, Sabally has played in all 18 games and leads her team with averages of 19.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

However, Sabally, one of the WNBA’s brightest players, stayed positive and posted a confident message on Instagram.

“Peace of mind because I always work things right,” she said alongside photos of herself.

Adding to her busy week, Sabally faced a tough return to Dallas, where she played for five seasons after being the Wings’ No. 2 draft pick in 2020. Some fans booed Sabally during the game, although reports differed on how loud the boos were.

Sabally said afterward, “The city booed me, so I’m moving on. I was happy to see everyone in the back and hug everyone, and I was actually really happy to come here. But then, I guess it’s also a sign of respect to be booed. So I’ll take that.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding her ankle injury, Sabally’s words and actions show she’s determined to keep fighting for herself, her team and WNBA players everywhere.

The Mercury will face the Dallas Wings at PHX Arena on Monday at 7 p.m. local time (9 p.m. ET).
