The WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game is set following Tuesday's slate of games.
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever were the first team to book a ticket to the final after beating the Connecticut Sun, 88-71. They won the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 record, thanks in part to the New York Liberty pulling off a comeback win against the Atlanta Dream.
Had the Dream won, they would have been the ones to make it to the final even with the Fever beating the Sun. However, with Atlanta's loss, both Indiana and New York finished with a 4-1 record in Cup play — but Clark's team had the tiebreaker advantage courtesy of their Saturday win against Sabrina Ionescu and company.
In the Western Conference, the Minnesota Lynx secured a return trip to the final after finishing with a 5-1 record in the Commissioner's Cup. They entered Tuesday needing only to beat the Las Vegas Aces to get their ticket to the final, and they did just that with a dominant 76-62 victory.
"Get your popcorn," the WNBA posted. "This is gonna be good. Caitlin Clark and the @indianafever take their first ever trip to the Commissioner’s Cup Championship game while Napheesa Collier and the @minnesotalynx look to defend their title.
The Fever and the Lynx will face off against each other in the Commissioner's Cup championship game in Minnesota on July 1.
As the WNBA explained, the Commissioner's Cup is "an annual in-season competition" that is comparable to the NBA Cup, previously known as the NBA In-Season Tournament.
The champions will be awarded $500,000. There's also $120,000 worth of cryptocurrency added to the prize pool provided by Coinbase, the official sponsor of the Commissioner's Cup.
