The Las Vegas Aces are the hottest team in the WNBA right now. The fact that they are in the midst of the longest winning streak in the league this season is a clear testament to this notion.
The Aces pulled off a big win on Wednesday against the Atlanta Dream to climb to the No. 2 spot in the WNBA and secure a playoff berth. Next Thursday, Sept. 4, they go to battle against the league-best Minnesota Lynx to try and extend their incredible streak to 13 consecutive victories.
It wasn’t always sunny in Las Vegas this season. In fact, it was only recently that the Aces turned their season around after struggling earlier in the campaign.
One of their toughest stretches came at the start of July when they lost three times in four games. This included a deflating loss against a Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever side on July 3, 81-54.
That defeat, which was Las Vegas’s first loss to Indiana since 2019, had a significant impact on the squad. One player, in particular, took it much harder than everyone else.
In a recent feature on the Aces’ YouTube channel, 5-foot-6 guard Dana Evans revealed just how much that loss affected her. In fact, the 27-year-old admitted that she was pushed to the brink of retirement.
"After the Indiana game, I was at a low point," Evans said. "I had my family, I played terrible, we got blown out by 30 points. It was embarrassing, and I was questioning if I wanted to continue playing this game.
“I got on my knees and I gave it all to [God]. I said, ‘Show me if it’s time to let this game go.’”
Evans played terribly against Indiana in that game. She came off the bench to score three points on 1-of-10 shooting. Apparently, that performance made her doubt her own ability on the basketball court.
Evans, however, bounced back in the Aces’ next game. She helped lead Las Vegas to a much-needed 86-68 victory against the Connecticut Sun with an 18-point outburst on 7-of-10 from the floor.
“Sure enough, I go out there in Connecticut, and I score my season high,” she said.

Evans decided to keep on going. She showed her resilience and has since been a key piece for the Aces.
In 40 games played this season, the one-time WNBA champion guard has produced averages of 6.7 points, 1.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 17.5 minutes off the bench. She’s no star, but there’s no denying that Evans will play a significant role in Las Vegas’ quest for a title this season.
