WNBA star Angel Reese has turned her sophomore season around in dramatic fashion. After battling a slow start to the year and dealing with injury setbacks that limited her impact, the Chicago Sky forward has bounced back with the type of dominance that made her one of the most talked-about stars in 2024.
Since returning from a back injury that forced her to miss seven consecutive games, Reese has averaged 16.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists over her last six outings (via StatMuse). Earning her second consecutive All-Star nod in 2025, her recent performance has reestablished her as one of the WNBA’s most imposing forces, particularly in the paint.
Reese’s resurgence has drawn praise from across the basketball world, and even the league itself is leaning into the hype. Ahead of Friday’s Sky vs. Fever matchup, the WNBA acknowledged her dominance on social media with a highlight reel and tongue-in-cheek caption:
“Angel’s law: An unstoppable force in motion stays in motion, especially in the paint. Your team’s about to learn physics the hard way. Tune in to Sky vs. Fever on September 5th at 7:30 pm ET on ION.”

Reese has been a consistent problem in the paint for opposing teams since her rookie season. Last year, she led the league in offensive rebounds (172), the most by a player in a single season. Reese also finished her rookie campaign with the most consecutive double-doubles (15) by a first-year player in WNBA history.
In 2025, Reese currently leads the league in rebounds with 12.6 per game, ahead of Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson. She will hope to continue her strong campaign when the Sky welcome the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday. Chicago will then hit the road to face Indiana on Friday, looking to avoid a season sweep.
Despite Reese’s breakout stretch, the Sky have already been eliminated from postseason contention, marking their second straight season without making the playoffs. Chicago (9-30) currently sits 12th on the WNBA standings, but Reese’s performance provides a clear path forward.
Drafted 7th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, she has proven she can anchor the franchise long term. The Sky will hope they can build with confidence around Reese as their centerpiece, knowing they already have one of the league’s most consistent and dominant young stars.
