The WNBA playoffs are in full swing, down to the final four teams as the Phoenix Mercury take on the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, while the Indiana Fever prepare for Game 2 against the Las Vegas Aces.

For all other teams, the season has ended. The Chicago Sky, meanwhile, have now finished consecutive seasons with 13 or fewer wins — a frustration that star forward Angel Reese openly expressed late in the season.

She made it clear that changes were needed and that the organization should prioritize bringing in stronger players, even indicating she would be open to leaving if the team couldn’t become more competitive. While her comments may have been seen as out of line, they resulted in a first-half suspension from the organization.

Reese has since apologized, but speculation about her future with the team continues, especially after her exit interview was canceled this week.

Despite the drama surrounding the Sky in the final weeks of the season, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie had a clear message about Reese and the growth she can achieve from these early-career experiences.

"I think Angel's young and she's gonna learn to be able to ask those questions of people who are asking her questions," Leslie said. "Angel's a truth teller, I'm a truth teller, sometimes we get ourselves in trouble... But a lot of times when you're a passionate player and you're goal is to win, you want to win by any means, but what you don't realize is so does everybody else in the locker room.

"But she lives and she's gonna learn from this because when she realizes that every question doesn't have to be answered... but when you look at the bigger picture, it's not that Angel said things wrong... I think the timing was bad... I think a lot of things get misconstrued in a way where she's not being protected."

Lisa Leslie received major praise for her comments:

"Lisa Leslie is SO important to women’s basketball. She does the delicate dance of speaking truth but protecting and looking out for players. She’s a GEM! She should always be protected and celebrated! A true girls girl!" A fan said.

Someone else added, "I see why teams won't bring her in as a coach. She is about the players first. These teams are looking for someone who puts the organization 1st. Lisa is the truth!!!"

"Another person wrote, "Lisa Leslie is what a legend sounds like. speaking life into these ladies not sneak dissing on podcasts for clicks."

Angel Reese was the Sky’s only All-Star in each of the last two seasons and has had two different head coaches in her first two years — Teresa Weatherspoon was fired following the 2024 season, and Tyler Marsh took over in 2025.

She still has two years remaining on her rookie contract and has expressed her love for the city of Chicago and desire to win there. However, how long she’s willing to stay without a consistently competitive team is something to watch.
