WNBA makes historic Kelsey Mitchell announcement

Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever suffered their second loss in three games on Thursday. She also saw her streak of consecutive regular-season games with 20-plus points end. The Minnesota Lynx dominated them, and their poor field-goal shooting also did not help their cause. If there’s any consolation, the four-time All-Star broke another WNBA record on the night.

Mitchell finished with 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting, along with two rebounds and two three-pointers. She was only Indiana player to score in double digits, with Grace VanSlooten backing her with nine. Head coach Stephanie White played her bench players more, particularly in the second half, in the 86-66 defeat.

The Fever will enter the playoffs as the No. 6 seed and will face the No. 3-seeded Las Vegas Aces in the first round. Mitchell and Co. are 2-1 versus them this season.

Mitchell’s second three-pointer of the night pushed her season total to 135. More importantly, she took over first place for the most threes made in a season in WNBA history. The league announced her feat on X, along with the play that allowed her to rewrite the history books.

The 30-year-old also set new marks with the most consecutive 20-plus point regular-season games and most in a single season. Her rare off night on Thursday could be a blessing a disguise as it would make her hungrier in the playoffs. The postseason starts on Sunday, with the Fever facing homecourt disadvantage. However, they have a formidable roster capable of winning against any team in the league. Mitchell, along with Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, will spearhead Indiana’s attack like they’ve done all season long.
