The Indiana Fever spent the better part of six seasons being one of the worst teams in the WNBA. But thanks to selecting first overall in two straight drafts, and landing superstar Caitlin Clark in the process, they’ve transformed into one of the teams to beat in 2025, and have some of the shortest odds of winning their first championship since 2012.
The six years between 2017 and 2022 were particularly rough for the Fever. They finished with 6 or fewer wins four times in that span, and a combined 24 games under .500 in the other two years. All in all, Indiana played 192 games, and posted a 45-147 record, a winning percentage of just 23.4%.
In 2023, they landed the first overall pick, and selected South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston. She would go on to win the Rookie of the Year award. But while the Fever more than doubled their win total from the year prior, they still finished with a 13-27 record, the third-worst mark in the league.
The Indiana Fever have championship expectations—and betting odds—this season.
Caitlin Clark has already made that explicitly known the Fever are chasing a championship.

For the second year in a row, however, Indiana ended up with the top pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The prize this time was Caitlin Clark, who has been the true catalyst in the team’s turn around. The Fever qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2016 in Clark’s rookie campaign, but were bounced in the first round by the Connecticut Sun.
Expectations are higher for 2025. According to the DraftKings sportsbook, Clark and the Fever have the third-shortest odds of winning the WNBA Championship this coming season, currently being listed at +350.
The New York Liberty, who won the first title in franchise history last season, are the overall favorites at +230, and the Las Vegas Aces are tied with the Fever at the +350 designation. Last year’s runner-up, the Minnesota Lynx, are fourth at +380.
It is essentially a four-horse race, as the fifth-lowest odds belong to the Phoenix Mercury but are set all the way back at +1800.
The WNBA regular season is set to get underway next Friday. The first game for the Fever will be played on Saturday, May 17th, and they’ll take on the Chicago Sky, with the game broadcasted on ABC.
