Following a WNBA championship in 2024, Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty have started the 2025 season with a perfect 7-0 record.

On Thursday, the Liberty looked for their eighth win to start the year, facing Brittney Sykes and the Washington Mystics in the nation's capital.

Going into the game, Ionescu had recorded 399 made 3-pointers during her six-year career with the Liberty. She trailed only Crystal Robinson (400) for the most made shots from long distance.

With three minutes, 50 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Ionescu received a pass from Natasha Cloud before hitting a 23-foot corner 3-point shot, her second of the game.

In doing so, Ionescu reached 401 career 3-pointers, breaking Robinson's record for the most in Liberty history.

The next two players on New York's all-time 3-pointers made leaderboard are Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon, who hit 331, and Shameka Christon, who made 288.

The WNBA reacted to Ionescu's historical achievement with a post on social media.

"Sabrina Ionescu is the new 3-point queen in NY ," the WNBA wrote on X. "She just passed Crystal Robinson for the most 3PM in @nyliberty history!"

Not only did Ionescu break the Liberty 3-point record, but she also became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 400 made 3-pointers, doing so in only 151 games. The previous record holder was Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi, who reached 400 in 158 games.

After the Mystics game, Ionescu and the Liberty will have the weekend off before taking on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Tuesday. Then, a battle with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever looms on June 14.
