DeWanna Bonner has been an impactful piece for the Atlanta Dream ever since she joined the team late in the 2026 season. The numbers and Atlanta’s record support that claim.
After reaching a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Mercury in a bid to join a title contender, Bonner signed with the Dream. She made her debut for Atlanta against the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 30, in which she recorded seven points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 17 minutes off the bench.
In the five games she played for the Dream during the regular season, she averaged 8.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists as a reserve.
In the WNBA playoffs so far, Bonner’s impact has become even more evident. Her numbers have increased to 13.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steal across five games.
The most noteworthy stat involving Bonner, however, is the Dream’s 10-0 record ever since she joined the team. The WNBA itself highlighted that fact ahead of the WNBA Finals, crediting the 39-year-old forward for her contributions to Atlanta’s incredible winning run.
“The DB effect is real,” the WNBA wrote. “Since DeWanna Bonner made her Dream debut on Aug. 30, the @atlantadream are 10-0 and headed to the WNBA Finals.”
Beyond Bonner’s on-court production, she has been a great influence on her younger Dream teammates.
Angel Reese echoed that sentiment in a recent interview, stating that Bonner keeps them humble. It’s also the two-time WNBA champion who keeps reminding her teammates that the job is not yet over and that reaching the Finals isn’t enough.
Atlanta will face its toughest challenge yet in the WNBA Finals, as the team faces an equally impressive defensive team in the Golden State Valkyries. The good news for the Dream is that they have a player like Bonner who knows what it takes to win.
