With their first title in franchise history as last season's WNBA champions, the New York Liberty entered June riding a wave of momentum.

After opening the 2025 campaign with six straight wins in May, the team extended its unbeaten streak to 7-0 on Sunday with a commanding 100-52 home victory over the Connecticut Sun.

Across those games, New York averaged 91.9 points per contest, shooting 48.6% from the field, both of which led the league.

Behind the Liberty's dominance lies head coach Sandy Brondello, who has orchestrated one of the strongest starts in franchise history.

On Wednesday, the WNBA took to X to recognize Brondello’s impact, naming her Coach of the Month for May, highlighting the Liberty's perfect 6-0 record during that span.

In 2014, as head coach of the Phoenix Mercury, Brondello guided the team to a then-record 29-5 regular-season mark and captured the WNBA Championship, earning Coach of the Year honors along the way.

Following eight seasons in Phoenix, Brondello came to New York in January 2022.

Under her leadership, the Liberty won back-to-back conference titles (2023, 2024) and its first-ever WNBA championship in 2024.

However, while Brondello may be the architect in New York, Sabrina Ionescu is the engine.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft out of Oregon, Ionescu arrived in New York with sky-high expectations, and she has certainly met them.

Over the past five years, Ionescu has collected three All-Star nods (2022-24) and was named to the All-WNBA Second Team from 2022 to 2024.

Through the first seven games of 2025, Ionescu has continued to flourish, averaging 17.9 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 28.9 minutes of action.
